Therapeutic Listening

Listening is a function of the entire brain; when we listen, we listen with the whole body.

What is it?

Therapeutic Listening® is a highly individualised at-home and in-clinic method of auditory intervention, which uses electronically altered music through high quality headphones.

Who is it for?

This intervention is carried out to benefit clients in diverse populations with sensory challenges (e.g. Autism/ASD, cerebral palsy, ADHD, dyspraxia, developmental delay).

Therapeutic Listening can promote development in a variety of areas including sensory modulation, attention, behaviour, postural organization, body awareness, motor planning, engagement, oral motor coordination and feeding.

Who does it and how?

The program is conducted by therapists who are trained and certified in Therapeutic Listening.  Trained therapists will design a customised program for the client, with listening typically completed twice daily for 30 minutes sessions for most children.

Children are given a three hour rest period between sessions. Programs can vary in total length on the specific needs of the client, some as short as 8 weeks or over 12 weeks. The use of advanced level listening could past beyond this point. Program is used to enhance function and development over different areas.

To start on the program, each client will need to invest in a personal set of high quality Seinheiser HD-500 headsets, for use at home and at clinic.
